Saw this over the weekend...REALLY enjoyed it.

Made some good connections to the book, but obviously it goes into WAY more detail than you ever could have expected just from reading it.

Great work with the costumes and effects too, I barely flinched or found myself thinking ,"that looked really fake" even though its a movie about giant monsters. haha

Only downfall was that you're there with like...a lot of little kids who are seeing the movie too. I was sitting directly next to some 6 year old girl who was slobbering crying at the end...hahaha

I was going to ask you if Henson had some part in this...seemed RIGHT up that alley.

It's not very kid friendly. Its like adult views on kids issues kind of. I keep hearing "its too scary! its too scary!" and I think these people are just moms left over from the 1950s. I don't think it's scary, kids just won't really get what is going on. Plus, the pacing is not like a kids movie. It's not fast spaced or anything.

You might not like it. It might be too "quirky" for you. But then again, the kid basically hates the world so you might relate. No word on if he is a yankees and jets fan.

Just saw it, and I'm kind of conflicted. And keep in mind I never read the book.

I really liked the execution of the film. Definitely not a kid's film and more of an adult film making you look back at the dilemmas and frustrations of life as a kid. Great effects from afar (a lot of close ups screamed CGI [especially KW's face when she was talking to Max in the sleep pile]), and I'm glad that they used practical effects (suits) mixed with CGI for facial expressions.

But it was kind of hard to watch Max and Carol. Yes, I understand that
Spoiler! :
Carol is supposed to represent Max's desire for a perfect life and the frustrations of not being able to have it, but it's kind of hard to root for Max when he's such a brat at the beginning of the film. The concept of having Max see how destructive Carol is and using the experiences to mature was well done, but it was difficult for me to sit through because I simply HATE seeing and dealing with the actions of bratty kids who throw tantrums when they get frustrated or don't get what they want.

That's just my initial reaction. Perhaps the negatives will subside after a few viewings.
